About City
Tokyo is Japan's capital and the world's most populous metropolis. It is also one of Japan's 47 prefectures, consisting of 23 central city wards and multiple cities, towns and villages west of the city center. The Izu and Ogasawara Islands are also part of Tokyo. Prior to 1868, Tokyo was known as Edo. Tokyo ranked first in the Global Economic Power Index and fourth in the Global Cities Index. The city is considered an alpha+ world city. Tokyo was ranked first in the "Best overall experience" category of Trip Advisor's World City Survey.
Tokyo’s culinary prevalence is the result of a location that has provided access to high quality ingredients, a high population of merchants, and close proximity to the ocean and waterway trade. In recent years, Tokyo has started to garner more attention from foreigners with the increased popularity of cooking and dining in popular culture. It has got a lot of tourist attractions such as The Meiji Shrine, Tokyo Tower, Ueno Park and Zoo, Asakusa and the SensÅ-ji Temple, Tokyo National Museum, The Miraikan and Edo-Tokyo Museums etc. The metropolitan area includes the major cities of Yokohama (the second largest city in Japan), Kawasaki, and Chiba, as well as rural mountain regions west of the city, the Izu Islands outside Tokyo Bay, and the Bonin Islands to the southeast in the Pacific Ocean. It has a very cool and pleasant climate in the month of May which best suits the tourists for its visit.
